WALTER LACHAPELLE

Secretary-Treasurer

Walter LaChapelle joined the Teamsters Union in 1988 and is a third-generation union member. He started his Teamster career working in various trades, including warehousing, ship repair, and transportation in the film and video industry. He has always been passionate about advocating for workers.

Walter began professionally serving workers in 1994 when he was hired by Oregon OSHA as an Occupational Safety Specialist. He was recruited as a union representative in 2000 and hired as a Business Representative for Local 58 in 2002, a position he held for nearly 19 years. He began serving as an elected Local 58 officer in 2007 and has held every position on the Executive Board.

In February 2021, Walter was elected by the Executive Board to serve as Secretary-Treasurer. He has also served as an elected delegate and alternate delegate to Teamsters International conventions.

Walter continues to serve as a trustee on the Oregon Teamsters Employers Trust and has served on that board for more than 19 years. He also served as a director for the Joint Council No. 37 Teamsters Federal Credit Union for 14 years.

With more than 25 years of experience advocating for workers, Walter remains committed to defending and improving the rights of working people.

RAMONA GERSCH

President

Ramona is employed by Chartwells Dining Services in the Evergreen School District and has been a proud Teamster since 2001.

Ramona moved to Vancouver, Washington, in 1979 after graduating from high school in Minnesota. Her involvement with the union began when fellow employees experienced unfair labor practices and she helped organize successfully with Teamsters Local 58. Soon afterward, she became a shop steward.

Ramona has participated in many grievance matters and has been involved in every contract negotiation with Chartwells. She became a trustee on the Executive Board in 2005 and served in that position until accepting the office of president in 2021.

TOM ALCOMENDAS

Vice President

Tom Alcomendas began his Teamster career during the 1990 UPS peak season. He served his coworkers as a shop steward for approximately 20 years and later became a trustee on the Local 58 Executive Board. In 2020, he became a Business Representative for Local 58.

Tom’s experience and dedication make him a strong advocate for workers’ rights. His commitment to fairness and representation continues to support and empower Local 58 members.

JUSTIN BAPTISTA

Recording Secretary

Justin Baptista joined the Teamsters Union in 2009 and is a third-generation union member. He began his Teamster career in the beverage industry as an order selector before moving into shipping and receiving. In 2011, members elected him as a shop steward, a position he held until joining Teamsters Local 58 as a Business Representative.

Justin has served on the Local 58 Executive Board since 2018, first as a trustee and now as Recording Secretary. He is committed to protecting Teamster members, ensuring fair treatment, and advocating for working people.
